Using a P38 with WriteLog and Windows XP
By Denis Campbell, AA0YX

After installing WriteLog and opening the RTTY window, I selected Port 0 and TU type as P38.  A window popped up stating that the program had a problem with XP and the RTTY window closed.  I followed the link of the WriteLog home page and downloaded UserPort.  This program allows direct access to the IO ports (http://www.writelog.com/support/lpt_port_support_on_windows_nt.htm).

The directions for installing are on the WriteLog website.  Do not use the LPT port addresses.  The address for the P38 is 0x360.

WriteLog will go up three so enter 0x360-0x363 (zeroes not letters), click update, start and then exit.

Click on <START> and <Help and Search>.  In the upper left Search block, type in Compatibility Wizard and Enter.  In the results section, click on the blue link “Getting older programs to run on Windows XP”.  On the lower right hand of the screen you will see another blue link “Program Compatibility Wizard”.  Click on this and follow the instructions.  Select “I want to locate the program manually”.  Use “Browse” and locate \Writelog\Programs\Rttyrite9.exe (where Writelog is the name of the subdirectory where WriteLog is installed.  It could be \ham\Program\Rttyrite9.exe).   Click <next> and select Windows 98/ME.  Again <next> and Rttyrite will run.  It will ask for the location of your P38 files, load and then run.  You’re now through.  Windows will generate and install a couple of files that allows the P38 to run from now on.

Good Luck
