| DXTelnet over a Local Area Network |
| These instructions are for installation of DXTelnet to run over a 3 PC Local Area Network (LAN). The instructions can be adapted to run from two to as many PC's needed to interface with WriteLog. This example will designate the three PC's as "A", "B" & "C". PC "A" will be running DXTelnet. All three PC's will run WriteLog. Requirements 1. All PC's have Network Interface Cards (NIC) installed. 2. All PC's are connected to the LAN. 3. All PC's have IP addresses assigned to their NIC's. 4. At least one PC (PC "A") needs to be connected to the Internet. Installation steps: 1. Configure DXTelnet on PC "A" 2. Install DXT2WL on all PC's 3. Update WRITELOG.INI on all PC's 4. Configure UDPSEND on all PC's 5. Test DXTelnet, UDPSEND & WriteLog USER steps (when starting a contest): 1. Start UDPSEND on each PC. 2. Start DXTelnet on PC "A" and connect to your favorite DX Packetcluster node(s). 3. Start WriteLog on each PC. 4. Contest to your heart's content. Special DXTelnet Filtering for RTTY Spots Comments: Why use DXTelnet when WriteLog has it's own Telnet application? The Telnet application included with WriteLog works fine. The reason you would choose to use DXTelnet is to take advantage of special features of DXTelnet that are not available with WriteLog's Telnet application. These features include spot filtering and the ability to connect to more than one DX Packetcluster node. Although there may be other features of DXTelnet that can be advantageous to WriteLog users, the two reasons stated above are the main reasons for using DXTelnet over the WriteLog Telnet application. The biggest advantage to be seen is spot filtering. Even for the casual contester, spot filtering can make all the difference. For running DXTelnet over a single PC, refer to the file DXT2WL.TXT located at C:\DXTELNET\DXT2WL\.
