Updates and announcements concerning rttycontesting.com as well as general RTTY contesting comments.
Are you surprised by any of the results from the October 2007 survey?

A couple of things surprised me.  The biggest surprise was the high number that felt there were not too many RTTY contests.  Personally, I feel there are too many.  I am glad to see there is concern about RTTY being operated below 7025 KHz.  I was not surprised to see contests like the NA Sprints, CIS, UK DX Digital, Open Ukraine, and XE RTTY receive the most votes as ones that should be eliminated because I don't care to operate these contests either.  It is suprising that only 34% of RTTY contesters do not feel SO2R should be a separate class than SO1R.  In the February 2007 survey, only 11% said they were SO2R operators.  So it's apparent that many SO1R operators don't feel SO2R should be separate.

Don,

The numbers in your survey say that 66 % of operators would like to see SO1R and SO2R a different class?

Yet here, in your comment, you say it's only 34 percent? Are we missing something?

Yes, I'm surprised that more people don't think there are too many RTTY contests. This point is further emphasized when looking at the contests to eliminate - no clear concensus.

Don, would it be possible to know how many responded to each of the questions or was 99% of the responders complete in coverage of them? I ask because some questions (like SO2R vs SO1R) are of interested to a vocal set on each side and I suspect the general population doesn't care a bit. If I am a casual operator, why do I care?

I think the contest sponsors need to look at the SO2R Question. In an election a 2 to 1 ratio would be considered a landslide or a mandate.

Unlike some others I enjoy the sprints it's a nice quick contest that fills an evening between the larger contests.
